Dialogue Across Time: Lessons in Overcoming Limitations

Introduction

In a future where dialogues through time are possible, 18-year-old students facing many uncertainties about their future personal and professional lives are given a unique opportunity. They can converse with their 60-year-old self, who has navigated these challenges and emerged successful and fulfilled. This conversation provides insights and wisdom that transcend time.

Dialogue

Younger Self: "Wow, your life is totally different than I expected. I thought you would stay in one country, work for the same employer, and contribute to your field of study and to improving your university."

Older Self: "Life has a way of surprising us. Believe in yourself, but listen carefully and do something with the feedback you receive. I've learned that adaptability and openness to change are key."

Younger Self: "I feel like I can't do math, and it’s holding me back in my studies."

Older Self: "I once felt the same way. My father became my tutor, and through practice and dedication, I overcame that fear. Later, I continued to progress on my own. It's important to ask for help when you need it and never give up. Math, like many skills, can be mastered with persistence and the right guidance."

Younger Self: "You didn't continue to work on policy, which you were so passionate about when younger. Why?"

Older Self: "I found other passions and opportunities that aligned better with my skills and interests. Sometimes, the path we start on isn't the one we continue to follow. Be smart in planning the step after your next step. Always keep an eye on where your journey might lead and be open to new possibilities."

Younger Self: "You were never unemployed, but if you had made smarter choices, you would have earned a lot more money. Would you have liked that?"

Older Self: "Integrity and reputation are invaluable. Never compromise them for short-term gains. While more money can provide comfort, it’s the fulfillment and joy in your professional and personal life that truly matter. Staying true to your values will always guide you towards genuine success."

Conclusion

The conversation between the younger and older selves illustrates a powerful message: self-imposed limitations can be transcended through learning and education. The older self's journey shows that with practice, seeking help, and staying true to one's values, obstacles can be overcome and a fulfilling life can be achieved.

Learning how to champion change through Social Impact Projects

Introduction Creating positive change in the world often starts from learning how to make an impact, and then taking action. Several successful entrepreneurs discovered approaches for driving social progress through initiatives that addressed pressing needs in innovative ways.  Their projects not only solved problems but also revealed valuable lessons that continue furthering humanity. Their success is not measured in terms of profit but rather in terms of how many people are impacted. Examples of successful social impact projects Blake Mycoskie and TOMS Shoes When Blake Mycoskie witnessed children without shoes in Argentina, he sought a way to help through his business. A Journey of Learning and Success

This is a true story. When it was time for George to start primary school in Enga Province, in the highlands of Papua New Guinea, his village was engulfed in a tribal war. Many homes had burned and bridges were destroyed, isolating the community. Most families kept their children safely home. But George's father was determined to give his children an education, which he had never received. Despite the danger, he courageously carried George through sometimes raging rivers and embarked on the long two-hour walk to school each day. This showed George the power of perseverance in overcoming obstacles. Created by Bing Image creator

It's easy to get caught up in the daily grind of work, school, activities and social life. But have you thought about where you want to be in 5 or 10 years? What kind of career interests you? When can you say your life is great or successful? Is there something else you'd rather be studying? What areas are you neglecting? How can you balance fun with achieving your goals? I've found a framework called Strategize Your Life (SYL) that can help you gain clarity and develop a plan for your future. SYL uses strategic thinking tools that top business leaders use to map out corporate strategies. You can apply the same principles to chart your own life course.
